Board-Certified Dermatologist
Benjamin Vazquez, MD, FAAD was born and raised in Washington State where he attended the University of Washington in Seattle. There he studied anthropology, and after graduation he worked at Group Health Cooperative and SeaMar Clinic in Seattle. He then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine where he completed his medical degree. While in medical school, he received numerous scholarships, awards, and recognition’s including the Odland Scholars Award from the Division of Dermatology.
Dr. Vazquez then completed his internship at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA and went on to attend the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for his residency in dermatology. During residency he was honored with the Mayo Clinic Fellows’ Association Humanitarian Award for his outreach and volunteer work.
His passion for understanding the relationship between populations, health, and diseases led him to lead several epidemiologic research projects. At the Mayo Clinic he investigated the prevalence of skin cancers, and he published the only incidence study to date on hidradenitis suppurativa. His research findings have been presented at both international and national conferences.
Dr. Vazquez also has a strong commitment to the under-served both locally and abroad. He has started free dermatology clinics, conducted research at Mexico’s National Institute of Public Health, and he has worked in clinics and hospitals in several African countries. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the University of Washington Multicultural Alumni Partnership Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2014.
Dr. Vazquez is a board-certified dermatologist. He practices medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, and he strives to empower his patients to be active participants in their healthcare decision making. He is excited to be returning to the Pacific Northwest and to be joining the Cascade team in Eugene.
In his free time Dr. Vazquez enjoys traveling, hiking, weightlifting, yoga, movies, horseback riding, and, of course, volunteering. He serves on the board for the HIV Alliance as well as Lane County Medical Society.
